Can I keep lifting weights when doing the Healthy Hips program?
I strongly recommend you take a break for at least a month while you focus on the Healthy Hips program. This will give you mental and physical energy to learn what your hip muscles to feel better and stronger in the long run.
The Healthy Hips program is designed to improve your hip function, which means you might need to temporarily scale back on heavy lifting or high-intensity training to give your body space to relearn better movement patterns.
However, I know some people just don't want to take a break until they are FORCED. I know some people are genetically gifted and might able to get away with lifting while trying to learn.
If you choose to keep lifting or doing CrossFit (or something similarly intense):
- Prioritize perfect form over weight or speed
- Reduce intensity or volume if you notice pain or compensation
- Use your Healthy Hips work as a foundation / warm-up to improve your performance long term
The better your hips function, the better your lifts will feel—and the more resilient you’ll be.
