Can I do yoga with the Healthy Hips program?
Yes—but it depends on how your body responds. Yoga and hip pain (including FAI-type symptoms) can be a tricky mix, especially if you're hypermobile or forcing into deep poses without adequate strength.
Here are some key principles to follow:
- Avoid “bad pain”—especially sharp, jamming sensations or pain that lingers and reduces your mobility after class.
- Be gentle with stretching. When in doubt, back off. Overstretching can make things worse.
- Use tissue work (massage, foam rolling) to loosen tight spots so poses feel more accessible.
- Use muscle contractions to build strength in stiff or unresponsive areas.
- If yoga feels like it's making your hips worse, pause your practice and focus on the Healthy Hips program. You can return to yoga later when your hips are stronger and more stable.
Remember: there’s no one-size-fits-all rulebook. Some poses may not feel right for you right now—but that doesn’t mean they’re off-limits forever. What matters is how you feel during and after.
