What are "Sets and Reps?"

In my programs, you might see me mention sets and reps.

A "rep" is doing a specific motion one time. Doing 3 reps means doing the same motion 3 times.

A "set" is when you do a group of reps. For example, you could do 1 set of 10 reps. Rest. Then do another set of 10 reps.

For example...

In some programs you might see exercises written with notes like: "2 x 10".

You can read this "2 sets of 10 reps."

Sometimes you'll see exercises written like: "2 x 8-15".

You can read this as "2 sets of 8 to 15 reps".

You get to decide on the total number of reps you do in each set. The more reps, the more challenging. If you're just starting an exercise, start in the lower range and gradually increase to the higher range.

Other times you'll see exercises written like: "2 x 30-60 seconds".

You can read this as "2 sets of 30-60 seconds".

You get to decide on how long you hold the exercise in each set. The longer the hold, the more challenging. If you're just starting an exercise, start in the lower range and gradually increase to the higher range.
